Can anyone help me on this topic:

A friend of mine suspected his CPU to be dead since he could not boot his PC. We thought we could try his CPU in my computer to see if that was true.

My computer could not boot up either with this processor (no signal to monitor), but the REAL problem is that I could not boot up my computer with my own processor after replacing the one we now assume to be dead (and a deadly killer?).

Our two systems are (were) the same. Motherboard: ASUS TX97XE
CPU: AMK K-6 200 MHz

None of us have tried to overclock the CPU, the only thing I did was to check his CPU but now my system is the same.

I realise that something in my system is most probably broken. The problem is that if I have to replace my system with new motherboard, processor and memory I would like to know what is still working of what now will be spare parts.

Do anyone have any idea what could have happened or how I should troubleshoot? I've tried replacing the CPU several times and also tried different jumper setting (clocked down from 200 MHz). I've been looking for loose components and I'm also aware of the danger of static electricity (I did my precautions).

Please help me if you can. I have friends that might need the still working parts so even if you just can tell what I safely can check that would be of great help (I'm now afraid that if I try the CPU on a third motherboard this will kill this board too).

Thanks for any help!

I recently had the same problem with a PII 450 chip. My problem was that my motherboard mis represented the voltage for the cpu and burned my cpu up...creating no boot up as you described...hope this helps somehow.
