Went to install XP Home on this new drive....at the format, XP home only recognizes an 8MB partiition and 131G free...what gives and how should I proceed?

Will it later recognize the remaining size of the drive after Windows XP Home installs and I can partition and format or?

thanks in advance

1. are you using an xp sp2 disc? if not, make a slipstreamed one. you need at least sp1 for 48bit lba support aka drives larger than 137G.

2. it would help if you stated what mb are you running. are you sure your motherboard bios sees the correct size? if not, check for a bios update.

there's a few threads here at Sysopt but you'll find straightforward instructions here (http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/winxp-sp2-bootcd.html)

sorry for the slow reply...

between Ma wanting me to clean up limbs from the trees here,
we had a hard freeze ice storm this winter that even took out power...

working on the hardwood floors that need re-done....

and gettin' the pup critters to the vet for yearly shots...

etc...etc..etc..as Yul Brynner said it best for those who can remember

smiles

I forgot to check back.....

thanks on those tips:

Its an Asus A7v8x-x with an AMD Athlon XP 2400+ processor...

went ahead and let the OS set it up (fresh disk but may have been an SP1)

then after the install it recognized the unallocated remainder of the drive, and I went ahead and partitioned then formatted in NTFS

went ahead and proceeded with all the lengthy Windows updates through SP2 and such

everything is fine now and I finished it out...

the slipstream is nice and I have done it once and only once on one OS, but not in working with new disks that are original and different from one another

as I have said before...

your all's help is good as gold,

your patience...platinum
