Cd-rom might not be detected by bios if its jumpers disagree with reality (ex: Secondary Master ~ Secondary Slave)

What is the cd-rom model.. a manual could probably be found online and jumper settings verified. Also look in the back on cd-rom where the jumpers are usually located.. many times there's a discription of settings. Also check bios for settings...

I have a few old Pentium PC's I am cleaning up to get rid of. The last owner (company) disabled the CD Roms for security reasons and I cannot load up an O/S. I think the disable may be on the jumper settings either on the CD Rom or the mother board. A friend put in a new CD which worked fine - how can a CD Rom be disabled and how can it be brought back again ??? Any info welcome

Why don't you set it up as a slave to your hard drive it should work fine that way. This way you can bypass the secondary IDE port on your mother board. Good luck Butchk http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Can you get into the bios?
It could have been disabled in the bios, but that would make no sense unless the bios was password protected.

But all you have to do to get ride of the bios password is remove the battery for a bite.
