Returned to my home after 3 months and pluged in my router and am unable to get my wireless connection which worked fine before I left. I have a D-Link router. Is there something I need to do to reestablish my connection?

can you even see the access point as available? do you have other wireless clients working on the router?

You may need to reset the router and setup the D-Link again.

1. When you plug the router in are you getting green blinking lights?

2. enter 192.168.0.1 into a browser window - should take you to the wizard to setup your router all over again?

I have nothing else on my router. I do have green blinking light on my router. I do not know where to look for access points. Is it safe to redue running the wireless wizard?

....certainly can't hurt - I'll bet it's your problem. Just be sure to choose a WEP key that's easy to remember or write it down.

which OS? you just need to click on the wifi icon in the taskbar and choose to view available wireless networks.

if anything, you can do a full reset of the router and then redo the configuration.

I wasn't clear - I think we're talking about 2 different things. You can try XP's wireless networking wizard, but that's assuming the router stayed plugged in and is configured - I think you said it wasn't.

The wizard I was talking about configures your router first - usually done by entering the ip address in my earlier thread, which opens a browser based wizard from D Link that sets up your router.

Then xp would normally "see" the wirless networks available, and you'd choose the wireless you created, enter the WEP key (only once) then all should be good after that

I am using Vista. When I entered the number you gave me I get a screen asking for a user name and password. Itried to enter but was rejected. I have a wifi finder on my computer and it shows a wireless network named Default and it has excelent signal strength, but when I change my cable connection to my router I get nothing.

do you remember your router password? which model dlink are you using? default login is admin and password is blank. if that doesn't work, do the full reset like I said.

what do you mean "change your cable connection"? are you connecting the router to the dsl/cable modem without restarting both devices? the modem usually will capture the mac address of the device connected to it, so you should restart it when switching between your computer and the router.

sounds like you have 2 separate problems. 1. you need to connect your router to the internet. 2. you need to connect via wireless to the router.

did you try using a wired connection to verify that your router is connecting to the internet? do that first, then you can go for the wifi issue.

if the router has been reset, the usernames is "admin" and the password is blank, as in nothing there. then hit enter
