Hey, Pickel - that's not an answer! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
I've been running WIN98SE for a while now without a problem.
Sweeper, you know you need to list more info about your system, like what MB, Chipset, CPU, Video, etc.

Susan: Did you install Win98 2nd from a disc
(full version ) or the upgrade from Win 98??
When I upgraded, it blew my computer's mind and was glad to get it unistalled without
too many resulting problems. Where do you get the full version?? Maybe that's the answer??
Seems to me alot of other folks have had problems with it too and gone back to 98
and even 95.The only advantage I see with 2nd edt. is the internet sharing feature.

Pickel, I use the Retail version of the upgrade, but install it fully by having my old WIN95 CD ready for it's compliancy check.
That can't be done with the $20 version - that may be your problems. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
There's a few things that you may want to try first, Sweeper to see if they help.
Disable Power Management in the BIOS and WIN98.
Disable fast shutdown in WIN under run/msconfig/general/advanced
If you have already loaded in any virus protection, disable that to see if it helps. It could be a program that is not closing down that is causing it.
It could also be your video driver that's hanging up, but try some of the above and see if any of them help first.
There is always the outside chance it has absolutely nothing to do with the OS at all and you have a bad system component - specifically the video card on the PC might be having a bad day.
You might try opening the case, unseating and reseating the video card and trying it again. Same with the cable going from the video card to the monitor.
While you are in there, you might check and reseat the RAM and the floppy and IDE cables - in that order is typically best as I've seen several folks check the RAM second and knock one of the ribbon cables loose doing so.
A last bit of advice on working on any complex equipment or cars - if you are frustrated and/or in a hurry - wait until another time to try to fix it when you aren't. Saves nerves, equipment and $.....
Best of luck.
Ok what you have done is this right?
Fdisked,Reformatted,&re-installed win98SE.
When installing 98 You do it with a bootdisk or did you do it with the boot from CD in the MB settings?
And if you go to a dos window what happens?

I can go to a dos window, but when I shut down the pc to dos nothing happens?
I have a floppy use to reformat systems. I booted to the floppy/formated/installed from cd/rom.

Maybe we are making this too complicated as well...... its entirely possible that the PC has in fact booted to DOS as you requested it to, but the cursor is simply not visable because the vid card does not display dos well with your monitor. I found this to be the case with several older 15" monitors, and yours may have the same issues.
Some monitors/vid cards don't display dos well, and if you have the controlls on the monitor to resize the screen, and change the horizontal/verticle, I would try those. See if you can get the cursor to appear, as it simply may be there, but too far off the left of the screen to see it.
