This is probably gonna’ be a dumb dead drive post...but I wish and hope there’s
a fix…someone maybe I can send it to, to check it out and resurrect it?

It’s a 250G Seagate 7200rpm IDE drive that was, working great! It has XP Pro on it and was performing fine. I pulled a dummy and had the surge protector sitting on the floor by my desk and accidentally toe’d the “off” switch while the computer was running. No big prob…I thought. On a reboot, the drive won’t access anymore. After banging my brain for a fix… I tried to use Seagate’s drive utility to locate and wipe and reinstall and the Seagate/Acronis program won’t even recognize the drive. Anyone I can send it to, or any program utility suggestions from anyone that can help me? I hate to trash a 250G hard drive.

Thanks in advance for any help

Need more info on the system or anything? Please just ask…

Can you auto detect the drive in the bios?

Sounds like the drive controller on the drive got a spike when you toed the outlet strip.

Check the manufacturers website if the drive is still under warranty (it could be). Then you can RMA the drive for a replacement.

Sterling_Aug !

Good Golly Gee Whizzikers!

Went to Seagates site...RMA'd the drive through the serial number which WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY!!!

SMILES

Paid the extra $20 to expidite, had the replacement in 2 & 1/2 days via UPS

That tip you gave me was worthy of $90-$120 depending on where you go for a NEW Seagate 250G 7200rpm drive

how much you need for counsel and guidance....??? smiling

I think my op for drives just slid from Western Digital to Seagate...

Does Western Digital have such an easy RMA user friendly option?

thanks a ton!

I still prefer WD drives. Various manufacturers have different RMA policies and warranty times. I can remember, but there is only one company with a 5 year warranty on their drives now. Everyone else has 1 year or less warranty.
