Ok, now I don't have a clue what the h*ll the problem is here, and it's really starting to irk me...
Everytime that I boot up, I get an error msg about the display adapter, but when I go into system properties, the is the msg...
"The display adapter is functioning correctly (Code 23)
The problem is with the main display adapter. Fix the main display adapter, and then this display adapter will work"
What the heck does that mean!?!
Is it something in the BIOS or what?
I would really really appreciate some assistance with this one, 'cause I'm stuck for now.
thanks
Z
btw, this is an OLD 486dx266 running win98 on it, the video card is a Viper VLB and it is some sort of modified ISA slot thing...

make sure the pc does not have onboard graphix if it has disable it then reinstall correct drivers for your card
make sure you have the correct setup for your monitor
Ok I just had this problem on a Laptop. Try and see if you can find new drivers for it. When I say new just drivers for it that you aren't using. Also try directx this may help window$ to see it better. A VLB is Vesa Local Bus and yes ISA is a cousin of VLB.

zskillz: I think BC is right, reload the driver.

well, I hate to say it, but I've tried almost every set of drivers that I can find and none of them have worked yet. I can't make it detect the monitor because it goes into a "safe mode" type of setting as long as the display adapter isn't working and the option to detect the monitor isn't given
I'll try the directX stuff later today when I get back up to school, but I have a feeling that it has something to do with windows trying to detect it as PnP even though I don't think that it is
any other suggestions so that I can try those too??
thanks

i would have to agree with malguru to check for a onboard display adapter. if there is they can ussally be jumpered off or maybe turned off in bios. if you have a MANUEL READ IT. OR SOMETIMES THERE IS A STICKER INSIDE THE CASE DESCRIBING THE JUMPERS ON THE BOARD LIKE vga on or off
sorry you said that it goes into safe mode. I am not sure that on VLB cards that it will detect the monitor. What kind of chipset is this?
Does this PC have another plugin to put the monitor in? This will tell everyone if it has an onboard video card.
Also try putting the card in another slot if avalible. Take it out look and make sure all the leads look right. Also alittle bit of air in the slot won't hurt. Did you try to completly uninstalling the card and then reinstalling it using a different driver?
