Per Kate and Leo the other day on the screensavers, sometimes you gotta repeatedly hit the f8 for it to work. on some mobos you have to hit it at exactly the right time otherwise it wont work...Hope the answer was this simple, cause otherwise I dont know http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I'm assuming that the OS is Win98? If so you should just start pressing F8 about two to three seconds before you see the Windows splash screen...since Win98 no longer has the 'Starting Windows 9x' message. I've done this on a countless number of machines and I can't see why a specific MB would have any problems with it...

Try using the "ctrl" key if F8 won't do it.

Or, boot with a empty floppy in the drive,
When you get the "non system disk" message, and the system halts,
remove the disk and press f8 two times in a row.
Hope this helps

I forgot one but this one is a real pain.
start/programs/accessories/system tools/ system information/tools/system configuration utilities. WHEW!
(hope your still with me)
now under the "general" Tab, click "advanced"
check the box "enable start-up menu" click OK and it will ask you to re-boot.

You will get the start-up menu every time you start or re-start untill you turn it off.

Let Windows nearly boot up(or just past the second win intro screen) then hit reboot.......it will bring up the safe mode menu by default http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Boot-up options are controlled from the msdos.sys file.

here is MS' article re: the contents of MSDOS.SYS and the values for various options on start-up.

msdos.sys (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q118/5/79.asp)

you might want to take a look at: bootkey=

good luck

Also, TweakUI has a feature in the Boot Tab to check 'Always Show Boot Menu' and one can set the number of seconds it's displayed.

Dave_H would it not be allot easier to just start/run type MSCONFIG then advanced

Well, doing it that way would require one less click, (three instead of four), but you would have to remove your hand from the mouse and type msconfig (8 keystrokes). I think it looks a lot worse than it really is.
I guess it is a matter of personal preferences.
Dave
Edit- Although That is the way I like to get there, It would have been a shorter post and possibly caused less confusion for someone following along. So you are right there.
Thanks.-edit
