I’m thinking of selling my current stick of 128 MB PC100 stick and buying a single stick of 256 Megabyte memory. Is there any advantage, besides the obvious, to having that much RAM on single stick?

Example: is it faster than two sticks of 128 Megs each.

I’m going with Corsair CAS2 but what are the pluses and minuses of using ECC? I realize this style of memory is predominately found in a server environment.

In the distant future I might turn the machine into a server but for the time being it's just for a stand alone workstation.

Also I might turn this machine into a Linux system.

--------------------------
Basic System Configuration

Abit BX6 Rev. 2 (flashed to the most current bios)
Pentium II 450 MHz.
Windows 98 SE
128 Megs Corsair CAS2

I've got an Abit HotRod 66 controller I will be installing with an IBM 7200 RPM / ATA 66 drive in Feb.

The only advantage is the freeing up of one slot. It isn't faster and some BIOS's have trouble seeing the bigger sticks. Adding more RAM is almost always a good thing to do though.

Hey Zots.....go to the kingston site. They have a pretty good tutorial about memory, different types, and what the advantages are.
