I have a problem with my Soyo 6VBA-133 motherboard. I have a P3 450 and 128 PC100 ram. I tried overclocking my 450@600 and it didn't work so I put the chip back to 450. But now it stops booting up. I get past the master and slave detection but it freezes the screen afterwards (PCI device listing and ISA/PNP device listing). It stops after displaying, Verifying DMI Pool Data..... I tried clearing CMOS but I still get the same message. If anyone out there can help me out with this problem, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

One thing you could try is resetting your BIOS to it's defaults (from within BIOS), reboot and re-enter, redetect your HD's and set all your BIOS preferences once again to what you want.

I don't have my soyo manual here at home, but I remember reading in it how to take care of this problem. IIt is not in the cheesy manual that comes with the board, but the one on the CD rom-which of course you can no longer access. I have a vague recollection you press the insert key on boot up, but I may be wrong; in fact, it may well be you hold down the power button for a certain number of seconds. I will take a look tomorrow when I get to my office and let you know unless you have figured it out by then.

holding down insert key on bootup up dates NVram and can clear up static resource conflicks.then hardboot imeatedit right after it happens about 3-4 sec into boot screen. but don't know if this is your problem.

If I can get it to boot, would that mean that my cpu or motherboard is not messed up? (i thought that i might have burned out my parts)

This is what SOYO says if you get hung up after trying to overclock.

press & hold down the insert key when turning on the system. "Hold it down until you see the message of the CPU type and frequency shown on the screen."
At that point, press the del key during the system disgnostic checks to get into the bios setup. Select Soyo Compo setup and reconfigure.

Hope this works. Did for me when I hung mine.

You would change it in the SOYO COMBO (the first heading in the bios setup. I do not have a p3, but I imagine the CPU frequency should be 450 (100x4.5). DRAM & AGP clock should probably be 100 (for my celeron, when not overclocked, they are 66 & 66). I don't know if you changed anything else when you overclocked it, but you should be able to set everything back to "stock" from there (eg, memory speed, etc.)

Hope this helps

I tried what you said before, bmckay55, but the same thing happens. I don't know what to do now. I tried testing 300 Celeron and the same thing happens. Could any of my parts be damaged if it still boots at all?

I think I am missing something. Also, while I have some experience with the 6vba, I am far from an expert in technical areas. Are you saying you got into the bios, the SOYO combo shows that you have a p3 450 and it still will not boot. If so, then some of the earlier posts which suggest you may have trashed the registry may be correct. During some problems I had been having with bad memory resulted in a trashed registry. Can you boot up in safe mode? From a boot floppy disk?

I can get into the bios and it is set at P3 at 450 (100X4.5) I can't boot into the dos promt or into safe mode. Since I can't change the registry at all in the current state, I think it is a motherboard problem.

What should my CMOS setting be? Because I still get the same message when I try to boot my system and also could my mother board be defective?

Sorry. I didn't realize you could get into the bios. Will it boot from a floppy disk? If so, that might be a good indication that you have some sort of corrupted registry, win.ini, etc. If you have backups of those, you could copy them. If not, perhaps the drastic step of a format and reinstall of windows?
Again, I am far from an expert in this. Is there anyone else out there who has some thoughts.

If you had your mother board set to boot at 600MHz you had jumper #7 set to open and #2 set to short pin 2&3. Move your short from 2&3 to 1&2, this should allow you to boot at 100MHz FSB. Hope this helps.

I already tried moving the jumpers back and the computer boots at 450MHz but i get the same screen. Also I cannot even boot from a floppy disk in this state.

Had the same problem with an unclocked PII 350. Try changing the way your drives are detected. From bios setup use IDE auto-detect and accept the configuration. Return to standard cmos setup and reconfigure your hard disks to Auto detect and auto mode. My probs occured after installing/changing the HD controller to Via's busmaster!

No asnwer on the phone, maybe I can fix your problem, even though I didn't fix it the last time it happen. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif Good luck man...
