Windows Update Problem

Dell Dimension 4400 has no problem going to any website except Windows Update. I can go to Google, Yahoo, ATT, EBAY; anywhere I want. when I go to Windows Update, the window will open but the screen is blank. even set it as a trusted site. something else I noticed is that when I use the scroll ball on the mouse it hesitates and jumps. checked the driver and it is fine. I realize that the mouse is not a major issue but, just wanted to throw that one in.

thought about using FIREFOX. went to the site and noticed the "DOWNLOAD NOW" box is missing.

you cannot do windows updates through firefox. period.

what url are you using? update.microsoft.com?

did you try clearing your IE cache first? do you have firewall software?

firewall is turned off. IE cache is cleared. have tried the Windows Update under Start>programs and used update.microsoft.com

Sounds like a virus or spyware blocking the Windows Updates.

Run Counterspy and Adware Away.

Actually, you can use Firefox if you install IETab:

You haven't mentioned your IE version. If you don't have IE7, get it:

Control Panel->Admin Tools->SERVICES->Make sure Auto Updates and Background Intelligent are set to Auto and Started.
