Hi,
Having re-installed Windows, I got to the re-installing the driver for my DVD. It asked me which region I was in so I could view the relevant disc. I made a choice, it thanked me, and then said I had only three changes left. After a few weeks all was not well with my PC so I re-installed again. When I got to the DVD I made the choice and it said I now only had 2 choices left for region setting.
Does anyone know how I can overide this, or maybe make it so I can change the region as often as my DVD's change from American to UK sourced ... I'm led to believe that nothing illegal is occuring here
take a look at www.dvdutils.com (http://www.dvdutils.com) it has aload of info and patches for making your dvd/decoder region free. Maybe there is something helpful there ?
btw- if it's illegal then.. erm, I dont in anyway condone it http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

hehe ...
Thanks for the link, I'll take a look and report back !!!
Thanks
Zin
Maybe you have to reformat when you reinstall. I, too, have an ATI DVD player. It never told me that I had a limited number of changes.

Nah RayH, this is whats a little confusing. I re-formatted twice in the space of a few days, and the number of changes reduced each time. I don't know how the software knows to reduce the number of changes if I'm re-installing after re-formatting 'cos there aint no refernce left in my system to tell it how many changes I've had ... (if that makes sense)

Just to take this thread one step further, has anyone got any suggestions as to where to buy cheap DVD Disk's, preferably from somewhere in America (so I can see the film before it's released in the UK)

Cheers all for help. I've downloaded DVD Genie from that site, and I think it'll do the trick
There is a page for Auto Region, which has picked up on my ATI DVD so I think all is well. Now I need to know a good place to buy.
Ahh, the joy of BB's, fantastic !!!.
Thanks for helping with my education !
Zin !

FYI...The regonal coding is in the FIRMWARE of the DVD player it self. When you change the country code it is REWRITTING the firmware chip. Many of those chips can only be safely written to so many times before they die and have to be replaced by the manufacturer. This was designed to prevent people from obtaining and using DVD's that are not released for their country. (an attempt to prevent bootlegging so to speak). If you do some reading over at http://www.dvdutils.com you will get a clearer picture of what is goig on with the regional coding (some DVD units can be made regonal free but some can not)
