Have a Lite-On CDRW-DVD drive and the problem is this. I was trying to load a new Linux Distro with this but keep getting an error after install starts. I burned this CD in this drive and it reads the LiveCD fine. If I then use the CD in a different CD drive it will install Linux.

What might be causing this? This drive seems to read and write OK as I can burn on this drive and reads them in all others. The CDs are imation CD-R 1X-52X.

It could be a firmware compatibility problem, it could be a weak read laser diode, or the drive may be just dying from other issues. Combo drives have two read and write lasers.

Use a lens cleaner cd.

A dirty lazer lens will do that. Also that dirty lens can cause very shallow burns which can be a bear to read.

About any place that handles cds/dvds has them.

Drive is a couple years old but it was never used much as it was in a backup computer. When I burn Linux cds it's only @ 12x which is the slowest speed it will burn.
Will find a lens cleaner and try it or just burn with my 5 year old LG that still works great.

From my experience, imation and LiteOn do not work well together, burning wise.

TDK and Vebatim do.
