Hello all, a friend wiped his HP 8570c hdd with a 98boot disk losing the HP hidden partition or compressed drive. Convinced him to get an Abit BE-6 II soon. Now he put a non HP win98 on it and everything works execpt the HP 8100 cd burner. Cant use the recovery disk, cant find drivers for the burner.
Easy cd creator is what came with it and wont work anymore, he's tried Nero and CDwinr, they work but wont do what Easy cd creator will. Installing newer verison of Eaay Cd creator didnt get drivers installed.
I'm going to build his new box but without drivers is this burner going to go to waste?
He cant afford to spring for a newone, just spent $ friutlessly on the software, and the mobo costs alot as well.
If someone has this combo can they email drivers? The adaptec site and HP site is useless, HP tech support cannot start a sentence without the phrase "put the recovery disk in..."
Any ideas?

can you give us some more details on what you mean by "it doesnt work"? are you getting error messages? does the drive read cds?
it almost sounds to me like an aspi error and not a driver error. windows should install the driver for it automatically.

I've got an 8110i and I think the drivers are the same that allow the burner to work correctly. I'll trade you for a copy of Nero. It is better than EZ CD Creator anyway - MP3 support which EZ CD does not have.

Just curious why you don't download the drivers from HP's site. The firmware is there for the taking. Unless, as asked by golfcart, it won't even read a cd. It should at least run as a player off of the Win drivers.

Lemme know

thanks for the replies, windows does detect it as a cd rom, what is the diference between drivers and firmware?
anyhow I found out how to use the recovery disk- seems the cd wont install unless the 18g partition is one big one.
Cutting it into 2 pieces stopped the install.
HP tech help said to use the partitioning tool included after the reinstall.
