My Internet connection gets knocked offline....

I am wondering if anyone knows how come my internet connection gets cut off shortly after I log on.I have a 56K V90 Winmodem.I know its not the greatest but it was gettin the job done. I usually connect between 4800bps and 46666bps. It worked fine till a couple of days ago...I checked with my isp and they said they arent having any trouble...I also talked with some one living a block from me and they are saying that the same thing is happening to them...Could the phone company be to blame here???I have to dial in 2 or 3 times to get a stable connection that goes unstable after a short time. I am running windows 98 and Ie 5.o. I reinstalled the drivers for the modem and check everything out, I dont think its in my modem.. I would be very greatful for any input on this topic.

Do the two of you use the same ISP? I would say there is a problem with a line in your area or if the two of you have the same ISP ride them till they get it fixed even if it is not there fault(they can get the phone company to fix it). Ask your neighbors if they have they same problem,if they are connected also.

Try this ,Turn off your cookies and in your dial out number type *67,,8256677 or what ever your servers phone number is rather than the 8256677 I have typed above. GOOD LUCK

No were not on the same isp...hes using another company.. and were still having trouble...I dont know if the phone company is narrowing its band width or what..I did read about GTE selling a bunch of its lines in the area but, our town isnt on the list. After much looking and scratching Im thinking that the problem is in the lines. Everything here seems to be working right.I just got done playing some Tribes and had no troubles at all....till I shut the game down...then I tried to come here and was knocked offline again..go figure?
