While trying to use "First Aid" 2000 to check system components for problems, I got a notice that it caught a crash for the above mentioned fault. I was trying to check my printer settings when this occurred.
The fault description reads:
C:\PROGRAM FILES\CYBERMEDIA\AUI\ASBROWSE.EXE caused an "access Violation" fault in module unknown at 015F:00000003.
32 bit apps. listed -
KERNAL32DLL, C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\KERNAL32.DLL
MPREXE.EXE
EXPLORER.EXE
OCRAWR32.EXE
TASKMAN.EXE
Is this problem related to the First Aid app.,or is it a conflict w/in Win 98?

While I don't use or really like crashguard programs such as FA or NU, the first thought that comes to mind is: How many running tasks/applications do you have going at the same time? You could be low on system resources running too many things at once.

How many things do you have running in your System Tray?

How much free hard drive space do you have?

Have you Scandisked or Defragged lately?

How much memory do you have?

Use Ctrl-Alt-Del and close some programs and see if you still have the same problems.

Do a Run: msconfig and uncheck things in Startup that you don't need everytime you use your comp.

Man, take that disc and insert in a preheated oven at 500 F for ten minutes. First Aid SUCKS big time!!!!!!!! Get Norton System Works 2.0 or 2000. Well worth the money. And you ahve so many options to keep your computer right on track. I have 2.0 on my machine and 2000 on my daughters, best commercial anti- virus and utilities....
Good luck http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Socalgal: My Crash Guard( Norton) program works great.Luckily my computer doesn't crash very often, but when it does, say 9 out of 10, it is able to recover and continue on with a loss of continuaty or data. Even Netscape is giving me a break lately. Have a good un http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif pickel

Socal has great points, another great member Nathan has a link page to numerious Microsoft sites that address the errors of Windows. IF, you don't find the prog as socal suggests.. I mess up this link every time so somebody rescue me if you know,, it's something like www.ehelpfree.com/nathan/ (http://www.ehelpfree.com/nathan/) DrVette

**shiver** pickel, NU CrashGuard always seemed to cause my crashes! I removed it some time ago and I have way fewer crashes without that darn prog! FA too, IMHO, they just take up too many resources running all the time.. My $0.02. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

DrVette, that would be the link! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif Nathan's site has always been a good place to go for help.

Brian, what's happening?

Thanks to everyone for their input. I have been out of town for a few days but will begin to explore the options you all have offered.
Socalgal, Yes, I have scandisked and defragged. I have 64 meg of ram, 75% of HD is free, and have only First Aid 2000 and volume level control in the tray.
Rich, Thanks for the link.

Hi Brian,

KERNEL32.DLL and MPREXE.EXE are Windows System files. Try going to Start Menu/Run: sfc and check to see if those files are corrupt.

It could be FA2000 itself causing the error, esp. if this the only time the error occurs. Perhaps a reinstallation of FA? Maybe the installation got corrupted, or something tweaked out at some point... Sorry I can't think of much else! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
