okay, my friend wants to build an athlon (maybe 800) system and he wants pc 133 ram since it's supported by the new rev of the chipset.
He asked me to get it for him, so nat. i went to pricewatch. at one of the sites i found this warning: http://www.icentral.com/html/1stchoicememory/page769.html
basically they said they tried a bunch of generic ram - cas2 and cas3, and that they had several compatibility issues with generic ram and suggest the more expensive "Atlas Precision" RAM. Are they just trying to get more money out of us, or is there some truth to this? Normally I'd just say "Bah", but after reading about power supply compatibility issues with the athlon, i thought i'd check with you guys first.
Thanks in advance!!

I have an athlon and so far all the memory I have tried with it seems to work fine...generic, hyundia, siemens, 100 as well as 133 so in my humble opinion dont spend the extra money for brand name or for 133 as 100 will work just fine..but then again the 133 is not much more than the 100 so...........your call

thanks ...
I'll go ahead and get him the generic RAM, and if he has problems with it, I'll buy it off him, i guess. I could use some anyway.
(But isn't that always the case?)

A mate of mine has had a lot of problems using his system (athlon 700, i think?) with generic PC10 ram. He borrowed some non generic stuff from a mate and it all worked fine? So he is having to replace his generic stuff.

RAM is really expensive. I remember Kyle of the HardOCP (http://www.hardocp.com) fried (I mean it was SMOKING when he had to take it out) some RAM on an Athlon board
At least if it fries and they say it wasa tested on athlon, you could get a refund (I hope).
Please post after trying out the generic stuff, so we can see your sucess with it. Im a fan of the generic stuff as well (READ: cheap), and am interested in getting an athlon soon.
Edit -
Heres the HardOCP Link (http://www.hardocp.com/reviews/cpus/amd/k7-650/k7650_review_pg_1.html)..check the bottom for the fried green RAM..not just any RAM either..it was Corsair.
Probably a board problem tho. Just trying to be wary.
