What version of Windows are you running? If win98 Run the SFC and see if you have any missing or corrupt system files. You mention that you have updated the "aspi drivers" what about the actual software? What version are you currently running? Is you system overclocked? have you done a defrag and scan disk lately? are you trying to do anything while burning? Do you have any programs running in the background such as virus scanners, Office ect ect?

My HP does not burn 80' cds. I tsees them as 74' and burns to that point and no further. The 8110i (my HP drive) is the only HP that has this limitation. At least the sites I have been to say that the HP 8110i is made by Sony and doesn't support them. The 7200i/e does not have that limitation and should be capable of burning these.

How much do you us the drive? And are you only having problems with these disks? I use Imations and have used Imations on the 7200i with no problems. Try another brand and see if you get the same error. Is this the internal IDE or external parallel version (7200i vs 7200e)?

Nero and Adaptec CD-R software conflicts with each other. Did you have this problem before you got Nero? Also, does it say anything about it already being in use?

I don't know if this applies or not but I used to have a problem with my HP8110i where the drive light would just start going and everything would be slowed down. From time to time the system wouldn't recognise the burner either. I eventually traced the problem to a faulty IDE cable.

Try another software - NERO www.ahead.de. (http://www.ahead.de.)
Do you get any errorcodes and blue screen?
OE fault? I got a lot of problems while using Adaptec software. Non with NERO - try it free.
Good luck.

Something else to check is whether or not your burner supports that type and size of CDR media. I've recently seen a greater supply in stores of the newer Imation 80min blank CDR's (as opposed to the original 74min 650Mb kind), and I know that if your burner doesn't support them (and some older HP's don't), it could give you head-aches.

I'm sorry I can't be a little more detailed as I barely understood the technical explantion when I read it, and can't really tell someone else about the specifics. I just remember that it made complete sense, and if your drive was not able to read the new CDR format, you were hosed. Some companies have provided firmware updates for their burners to account for this, and others have not.

Double check to see if your Imation CDR's are the 80min kind, and if your burner supports them.
