Java freezing Win98 w/ both IE and Netscape

OK, K6-2 400 laptop running Windows 98. When I browse to a web page that contains java, the system freezes up. And this is regardless if I'm using IE or Netscape. I've tried reinstalling both browsers, still didn't work. Any suggestions?

www.windowsupdate.com (http://www.windowsupdate.com) sometimes you have to go through their links page www.microsoft.com (http://www.microsoft.com) , choose downloads/windows update.. try anyway,, if ya haven't already.. DrVette "read this first" is not optional,, DO IT
