I moved my Iomega zip drive and Epson printer from an IBM Aptiva to a Compaq Presario 7360, and now neither works. The zip is not recognized and there's a "problem writing to" the printer. Iomega says it's a Compaq problem, Compaq says it's a BIOS problem and they don't know who made the BIOS!? After following instructions from both tech helpers, I have an EPP parallel port mode setting reading in BIOS, and an ECP setting in "My Computer's" Device Manager. Any ideas? How can I tell who manufactured the BIOS? Thanks.
FYI: Check through the Tech Support section of the BBS. There was something (I don't remember who posted it or when) about the Compaq BIOS. From what I remember, it was something about the fact that it's a hidden file on the HD; maybe somebody can tell you where.
A suggestion: You said you have an EPP setting in the BIOS, but an ECP setting under Windows. Remove the ECP parallel port device, shut down the computer, then turn it back on. Windows should detect it as an EPP, and install the correct drivers for it. To get your Iomega zip recognized, goto www.iomega.com, (http://www.iomega.com,) and download IomegaWare 2.1. It will allow you to easily add your zip drive. I think the real problem is the conflicting settings though, and that's why nothing works. Good luck! Let me know if it works or not.

Well, Jim, that solved my software shortcomings -- now the zip interface shows up on Device Manager, but the parallel port still won't redesignate to EPP, so the zip and printer still won't work. This afternoon Compaq tech support said the motherboard must be defective and I should send it in for repair or return it. Thanks.
