I have a Jaton Communicator V.90 modem and almost everytime I disconnect my computer freezes. Once in a while this happens while connected but it's more frequent when I disconnect.

I called Jaton and they said it was a Plug and Play conflict. I took out the modem and set the jumpers to com2 but that didn't help. The computer didn't recognioze the modem after that so I set the jumpers back to PnP.
The tech at Jaton said that this wouldn't be a firmware issue.
Is there a way to correct this?

I had posted something yesterday about a different issue and somebody was kind enough to post a link to a modem site. I tried it but I didn't see anything regarding this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You did not mention your operating system.
That would be very helpful.

Sorry about that. I am using Windows 98.

You may want to try changing some of the settings for the computer's ports. (software/harware control, port speed, buffer settings).

these settings can be accessed via the device manager.

hope this helps

Thanks for the tip. I'll try changing some settings. I keep trying to change the jumpers but I can't get Windows to recognize th emodem under system.

I've been trying to update the firmware but have had no luck at all with that.

I think if you're going to use an internal modem at com2 you have to disable the physical com2 port in the bios. Then W98 should pick it up.

I tried disabling the Com2 port but the bios on my computer only lists com1. I'll see if I missed something.

Thanks!
