I just installed a couple of new DVD burners to replace a couple of failed ones. The new ones, (Philips SPD2413BD's) come with a NERO 7 Essentials disc.

I have heard that multiple burner programs don't necessarily coexist peacefully. Is it necessary to uninstall the old burner programs first or can I go ahead and install NERO as well?

I've found that the apps that come with the optical drives don't work with any other optical drives on many occasions. For example, the Nero7 disc that came with the Sony DVD-RAM I installed in my computer in April wouldn't work with the Liteon DVD-RAM in the computer I built for my parents for Christmas. (I was kinda hoping to sell the unopened Nero on eBay. http://discussions.virtualdr.com/images/smilies/redface.gif )

Your best bet would be to uninstall your old, non-Windows burning programs and then install your new Nero7.

OEM ?? that sounds right for free software included with purchase. 'Nero' is my favorite burner. It works and is not fancy. I like that. IMO stay away from Roxio. Every time i install any of theier stuff it ruins some part of my system or just plain has problems. A good example of putting too much stuff into its software base.

To a direct answer to your question, I would say what 'Lg' said. Instal only one. Why mess with other programs that might corrupt your system. Uninstall thorougly like he said and install Nero 7. Be careful to configure its main options how you want from the start, as it will change some things. personally i've had porblems iwth thier 'IN CD' feature.

Sage advice. Thanks.

I did some checking and the old software is BHA's Gold 7 which is no longer supported by the vendor. I also checked the website for supported devices and the SPD2413BD is not listed.
