I upgraded win98 to win98 SE. CD Writer doesn't work anymore even after I updated CD-Direct to ver.2.5d from HP site. Any advice? Thanks.

It probably corrupted a file somewhere. Did you try uninstalling the device drivers then re install the original drivers?

Did you uninstall the drivers before upgrading to Win98SE.

I had a similar problem when upgrading from 98 to 98SE, as there is quite a difference between the versions, some hardware manufacturers use different driver for 98 and SE. The problem I had was with a Digital Video card which would not work under 98 and I was advised to upgrade. unfortunatly I ended up having both 98 and 98SE drivers for this card being loaded simultaniously, which caused no end of problems, and was unable to uninstall any of them.

The only solution I had was to completely rebuild the box, firstly by installing 98 then upgrading (note:- if you have an SBlive card and have an old version of the drivers, make sure you download the newest drivers from the web as the old one cause SE to go mad if installing as fresh on an SE build (works if already installed on 98 and then upgraded to SE ?!?!? don't ask....)

Hope it's not a rebuild for you, but you are not alone... (make a 'ghost' image of the clean build in future, it's saved me no end of time in rebuilding 'that **** machine')

Good luck, Squirrel

I don't know if this can help you. But try to take the latest driver from www.Adaptec.com (http://www.Adaptec.com) or you might use NERO from www.ahead.de. (http://www.ahead.de.) I got a HP8210i and gave up to use the software from Adaptec.
