I have a 18 month old dead HP7200e writer.
HP want to charge £150.00 callout and £120.00 per hour to look at it !!! Does anybody know of a company who can repair writers for a reasonable fee ???

I don't know of any place, but to tell you the truth, with the prices burners are, it will probably be cheaper to just buy a new drive.

BEOR surely if he knew what exactly was wrong with the drive he wouldn't need HP to tell him!! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
I think what he meant was what are the symptoms. If you tell us someone might be able to shed some light.

I dont know whats wrong with his,but let me tell you what mine is doing k? Its a HP 7200i
It will not burn a cd it says Optimum Laser Power failed..SCSI driver code=02037303h.
It will run a burn test with no prob, but when i try to burn it comes up with that.
Hp is almost impossible to get ahold of for tech support on these drives.Oh and Furio software says this error is a weakness of the cd writer. It ran okay tell i did the firmware update, anyway to remove that?

Hi, I used to have an HP7200i. It pretty much died on me about 14 or 15 months of use. Can still read cdroms but usually burned coasters by the end. I'd just get a new drive. I think these drives just have a short lifespan - hence the 1 year std warranty. Also, I don't think there's anyway to remove a firmware upgrade (I could be wrong).
