Help!!!I purchased a Mustek VDC3500 digital camera that I can't get to work. Using the software that was sent with it I can get as far as selecting photos and the I get a message, "Cannot communicate with camera". I called Mustek and they said that I don't have an available port. The camera is trying to access COM 2and that is where my modem is. The suggestions is to use another port. Problem is that when I go into the system bios I only have Port 1 & 3 listed.

SYSTEM DEVICES: I have two 9 Pin ports, one of which is being used for my mouse. I also have a AGFA scanner, laser printer and RealAudio all of which work.

QUESTION: HOW DO I ACCESS ANOTHER PORT SO I CAN USE CAMERA ON COM 4

Hi Buckeyedonn ,My friend had the same problem and after all that was said and done he had to go on Ebay and buy a Snappy for $50.00 just to get his photos on his computer because com2 was already in use by his mouse.
And thats the bigest problem with the cameras today they will not work with an older computer, the newer computers leave that port free so you can do just what you are talking about. And the newer cameras have to USB ports so I guess with your problem it sounds like you would be better off investing another $50.00 or so for that Snappy device that hooks to your printer port. Good Luck

It may - repeat MAY - be possible to reconfigure the modem to use com 4. Depends on the modem and/or it's software. Also depends on availability of IRQ's.

And if you attempt this and are the least bit unsure of yourself, make sure you have use of another machine with net access!!!
