I've just switched from and ALi chipset to a VIA chipset, on the grounds that I'll then be able to get my tnt2 ultra working.
However, after putting the new mb in, 98 now hangs on its splash screen, it will boot in safe mode though.
Logically this looks like a driver incompatibility, but with a blank hd and a new installation of 98 I still get the same result.
Thoughts anyone..?

I was thinking of getting one of these boards but no one had any comments on it. I noticed with one internet order company a few of these boards were advertised as pre-used ie they had been sent back.
They are cheap and I was conserned about the quality. However as I am upgrading a 486, and with the recent rise in the cost of memory I considered this board because of the two SIMMS.
I can't help you with your problem but I would advise you to list your complete set -up so others can hopeful resolve your problem. Best of luck!

Your're right, it was cheap, but its still got the right chipset for my requirements, so I'm willing to soldier on for a couple of days.
The system is as follows:
TMC AIVG+ mobo (updated BIOS, AGP drivers etc)
AMD K2-450
64Mb RAM (PC-100)
10Mb Western Digital HD
48x CD (Mistumi?)
56.6 Modem (generic V.90)
16-bit Sound Card (generic SB clone)
32Mb TNT2 Ultra (AGP)
...thats about it.
I've tried with the bulk of the card removed, one thing I didn't try was with a spare 16Mb PCI video card I've got kicking about - it was getting pretty late!?!
So, I'll give that a spin.

Well how are you getting on?
Personally I have a suspicion that there is something wrong with the bios settings.
I had a similiar experience with windows hanging on a PC Chips board. I ended up getting the board replaced. The problem apparently was the board was only meant to be running at 88 mhz, but pc chips deceived everyone into making them think it was a 100mhz board.
Prehaps if the bios settings are not right this may have the same effect. I assume you are compitent to set up the jumper setting properly.
If you sorted it out let me know I'd be interested.

No, I haven't resolved it.
Yes, I am competant to build it (I used to do that for a living before it occured to me that you could make more money supporting NT...!)
Even installing 98-SE onto a fresh disk gave me the same problems, I ended up unable to even run with my old Banshee let alone the TNT2.
So, I given up temporarily and gone back to the ALi chipset with the other mobo heading back to the vendor...
