Modem and usb irq question

I just bought a Tyan S1598, and if I enable usb ports in the bios it uses the
same irq as my internal modem, even if I change the irq for the modem, it
will use that irq. Is this normal and will it cause any problems if I try to
use the modem and a usb device at the same time?

Is the modem PCI? Do you have PCI steering? If yes to both, then you should not have any problems.
