Last year when I got verizon internet, I did not use there software. My internet worked and I used my msn web mail.

When clicking on a address link on a web page, it opens up Thunderbird. I set Thunderbird to work with my msn account. When I checked my mail, it asked me for my password to verizon.

Verizon told me I don't have a password. Verizon support told me I had to set up an email account (using there bloated software) in order to make my msn work.

Do I have to set up a verizon email account to use Thunderbird to work with msn? Can I do it without using Verizon software on my computer?

Thank you,
Chris.

Try this:

This is in regards to wishing to use Thunderbird for email

Click on tools/account settings then click on “outgoing server (SMTP)”

Set the name “smtp.email.msn.com” make sure the port is 25

Check mark “Use name and password” Put in the first part of her MSN email account in for username.

Leave “Use secure connection:” bulleted No.

You can set any other settings however you like receiving mail from any ISP.
The first time you send mail it will prompt you for the password, check mark save password and put in the password you gave when setting up the account.

All e-mail clients allow multiple accounts. Go into Thunderbird accounts and delete the Verizon account. The MSN account should remain.

Thunderbird wants to know my in and outgoing server names. msn doesn't have that, I don't believe.

Did you delete the Verizon account?

You really have to start communicating with us.

bruceb gave you the server names two posts up. Did you read it?
