anyone having a soundblaster 16 with a sanyo 8x cd-rom, give advise on how to get them compatible. having problems getting cd-rom recognized by windows.
my version of win95 is B.
cd is a IDE.
I`m trying to run two hard drives and running cd-rom off the sound card, but when i hook it up to either the Mitsumi or creative/panasonic pins it locks up the sound card, but when i put it on the sony the sound works, but can`t get the cd-rom to install. [ will i need to get a 4 connector ribbon cable for the hard drives and cd-rom and daisy loop all to the mother board]

Do you have it connected to the secondary IDE? If that CD-rom is IDE, there shouldn't be a conflict between them.
1. What version of windows are you running?
2. Does the sound card work right now?
Dont wanna second-guess CMonster, but are you SURE the Sb-16s are IDE channels, I thought they ran those propieroty or whatever (sorry cant spell) 2x Drives that where made. I know thats what my 2x plugs into, and its not an IDE CDROM, Id bet a Months paycheck that that soundcard isnt IDE.
good thing i dont have paychecks, dont work, lol =)

I am guessing that the reason your mention your SB16 is that you have connected the CDROM to the IDE connector of the sound card.
If your have only one IDE cannel on the motherboard, you can still connect the CDROM as a slave on the hard drive cable.
If your motherboard has dual channel IDE, i.e. primary and secondary, then you should connect your CDROM to one of those and disable the sound card IDE. The CDROM can be a slave to the primary IDE, or master of the secondary IDE - or secondary slave if you already have another device as master on the secondary IDE.
If you have no onboard secondary IDE and must use the sound card IDE channel then make sure that it is configured correctly, either in software or with a jumper on the sound card, and the IDE cannel must be recognized by Windows (you should see it in the device manager). Windows 9x has drivers for Atapi CDROM and does not require the loading of CDROM drivers from config.sys. As long as the IDE controllers are recognized correctly the CDROM should be detected.

I have an old SB16 OEM version and I ran the CD-Rom successfully off of the IDE port on it for the last 2 yrs. To get mine to work I had to make the CD-rom(mitsumi 8X) jumpered to master and install the updated drivers that you can get off of the creative website and I might add that I tried for an hour to get it to work before I realized that I had the ribbon cable pin 1 pluggged in on the wrong side /forum/biggrin.gif . If this is any help at all...... Good luck
