A little more info on the system would be a help - what BIOS is in the system? Given the lack of display it could be the motherboard. Do you hear the HDD power up?

its says v58xa on the bios-chip//its from a aptive e series computer..amd300 with on board video and sound.
the strange thing is it worked until it sat...i just took out the harddrives and floppys for another machine..then it sat in a room untouched for 8 months..and now i cant get it to even go into bios or anything..i can get the power on and thats it

I don't mean to insult anyone, but is there any chance the pc speaker leads are not connected securely to the mobo? I tend to look for more complex things than anything that simple, easy to overlook is all.
Also I know my sound card (sblive) has an output to the pc speaker listed but it must route thru the motherboard because I've never noticed any place on the card itself to place those leads. If something does not allow it to power up that far, would you still get beeps?
This may not be of any help, but I'm just trying to be a pair of fresh eyes looking at this.
