I have a HP printer and it uses the bi-directional communication. (IEEE)

Is there a difference between a regular parallel printer cable and a IEEE printer cable?

Is a regular cable only uni-directional?
I know that the IEEE is bi-directional.

Some of the older do not suport bi-directional printers
But most newer cables suport bi-directional

So a cheap $2.99 cable probably wont support it wiil it?

which model do you have? i have the 812c. i went out and bought it and a 30 dollar ieee cable. got home took out the printer and lo and behold it had a usb port on the back of it in addition to the par port. if your printer does not support usb, then get a decent ieee cable if that what the manual says the printer supports

It's the 722C I know it's IEEE becasue you have to do the two-way communication test.
