The MediaRing software program I am running says I have a "half-duplex" sound card installed in my system. Its a older 16 bit Sound Blaster.
I would like to buy a "full" sound card so that I can have the full benifits of the software program. My question is how would I know what is a full and what is a half card if I was shopping on the net? Any help appreicated.

Generally you can find a description of the product when you are shopping online, you might find the specifications there. I think all of the new high-end sound cards are full-duplex.
I have a cheap ($29) but very good quality sound card, the "Creative Ensoniq Audio PCI" and it is full-duplex, i.e. allows simultaneous record and playback for internet communications software, etc.
Hello,
I think that any 32 bit sound card should have full duplex capacity.
About MediaRing - I am using this software for some time now and I found that the best results I have is when I work in half duplex mode (Australia to Europe and New Zealand) but that might be because of slow network conditions.
Hope it will help.

Cmonster,What you have "sounds" great. No pun intended.
I'm not into sound cards where I need to send $200.00. Especially if you saw the two speakers I got sitting by my monitor. (I've got a couple of low end Labtics) I just want good quality sound with most of the bells and whistles.
Tanks much

Look around for a good deal on a soundblaster live value card. It's pretty much the standard now. I got mine about 8 months ago for $57.

I've used a $10 ISA card that was based on the ESS1869 chip. It had good sound, was able to record decent sound, has good DOS compatibility(after all, it is ISA), and the specs say it is full duplex. Go to http://www.esstech.com and select ISA audio to get more info.

The sound blaster live card is coming down in price and from what I hear it is one of the better ones on the market.
