It seems that every time I install Windows Vista Ultimate, there's a long pause immediately following the first few phases of the installation process. First I get this screen:

Then following that screen, I get this screen:http://i.techrepublic.com.com/gallery/2885.jpg
and this is where it seems to hang for about 5 minutes or so and then afterwards, I type in the key and things continue successfully. My concern is why there is that long pause during the initial setup of Windows. Is there a hardware issue?

I unplugged all the peripherals, cards, printer, and other devices/components to see if that would help. Nothing seem to make a difference.

Got any idears?

It is detecting devices. Leave it alone and it is fine.

Oh okay. I freaked out thinking that something was terribly wrong. The long pause seemed a little too long.

Okay, I'll try not to fret.

Yeah - it takes ages to install Vista. You would think that this lengthy process would assure that all devices would be detected properly, but no way. With that much time, it should be able to detect every device within a mile of the PC by osmosis of something.

I'm sorely disappointed with Vista on so many levels...

I had that feeling Bill, but I found that since alot of my customers are moving or are getting Vista pre-installed, that I better at least have some knowledge of Vista so I got Home Premium, and after a couple weeks of grumbling through it, and "accepting the future" I cant complain about Vista too much I m using it everyday with less and less grips, still stuck on that it sucks up 1GB of my 2 on load, which is VERY heavy, and that my Epson Scanner thatI bought last year, doesnt work with Vista, and Vistas crappy handling DRM BS, has made my X-Fi sound like a regular on board AC'97 chipset

I have just sucked it up and I really dont mind Vista

to comment on this post yup vista takes awhile to install, but who really just sits there and watches Vista install but shame on MS for not at least giving us a progress bar so we dont sit there and second guess if it is actually doing something or just hung up on something
