I've got a BioStar MSVIG 400 and trying to get a CPU in the 333Mhz range. The board can run a 200Mhz, 266Mhz or 333Mhz cpu but the link for cpu support for the board located here:
http://www.biostar-usa.com/cpusupportA.asp#M7VIG%20400
shows the following cpu support for the board
M7VIG 400 7.1 VIA KM266 Pro Socket A AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (333MHz)
AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (266MHz)
AMD Sempron 2800+ (333MHz)
AMD Athlon 1.4GHz
AMD Duron 1.8GHz (266MHz)
AMD Duron 1.3GHz
does this mean that I cannot run a n XP 2600+, 2700+ or 2800+ in the 333Mhz range?

overclocking???
yes you can run your 266 processors at 333. I do have some 7VIGs, but I have the KM266 versions, not the KM266 Pros.. I'm just confused how a KM266 Pro chipset can go over the 266 mark... But Biostar did state it would support a A.XP 2600+ @ 333.
running a 2600+(266) at 333 would likely give you a 3000/3200+..
refer to the overclocking forum about voltages, and cooling.. raising your FSB to 333 will increase the PCI clock; depending on the motherboard

Hmmmmmm...I never supposed you could run a 266Mhz processor at 333mhz though this board 'does' have software to easily overclock the processor. My questioin was more to the affect that the CPU compatibility chart showed:
AMD Sempron 2800+ (333MHz)
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (333MHz)
but none of the following and I wondered if it meant it 'would' or 'wouldn't' operate with a XP 2600+ 333Mhz, an XP 2700+ 333Mhz or an XP 2800+ 333Mhz processor. To my simple mided cmoputer wisdom, I would think those processors would work? However, sometimes my 'assumptions' are right. Any tips?

you might have to manually set the bus speed, but they should work. do you have specific cpu model numbers?

This board has jumpers to set from 100, 133 or 166Mhz
for CPU settings
the following would be processors
AMD ATHLON XP 2700 2.167Ghz 333 FSB
AXDA2700DKV3D
AMD XP 2500 0.13 µm 512 KB cache 333 MHz Barton
AXDA2500DKV4D
AMD ATHLON XP 2600 2.083Ghz 333 FSB
AXDA2600DKV3D

I'll also look at those support forum links DexMax...thanks

do a bios update. that might add the microcode ids.
if that doesn't work, then just manually set the bus speed. they are DDR so 166 would be 333, etc.

Thanks MidKnyte...and everyone...
sorry for taking so long to reply...
but that should work out...
the cpu that bolstered is under RMA and coming,
but its almost a 3 week wait due to shipping back and forth...
its a 2600+ 333Mhz FSB so it should work...
AMD ATHLON XP 2600 2.083Ghz 333 FSB
(AXDA2600DKV3D)
will use two 256Mb 333Mhz Kingston sticks of memory
and a 128Mb Ati Radeon AGP DDR video card
two twin 80G Western Digital 7200rpm HDDs
nothing fancy, just want a good strong healthy dependable back up work computer
once I get the CPU back, I will surely check with you all to make sure I set it up right...
like I said, the Biostar mobo ran fine with the 266Mhz processor with the jumpers set that way...
so I shouldn't have too much trouble with this 2600+ 333Mhz that's coming back, if I follow everyone's advice...
they said I just had a bad CPU once they got it and checked it out..with everyone's help I'll make it
appreciate it all
