The pc is a Compaq 9564 and the modem is a Creative Labs Blaster iD5061. The modem installs until reboot. After a reboot the diagnostics show the port already open. I go and remove the modem under Device Manager and reboot and the modem works until the next reboot then I'm back to square one. I had the same problem on a 9548 I once had and eventually had to go through three modems and ended up with a USR that would stay when it was recognized.

I'm trying to get to the root of the problem this time. Any suggestions? No SoftPaq addresses the problem and there is no updated driver for this particular model of SB modem.

I've been crashing a 9564 for a week now, the modem is a prob here too. Finally after getting MS dun1.3 and some stuff from windowsupdate, and just keeping at it, I got it.. Check "network" under device mgr, make sure dial-up adapter and tcp/ip are in the box, sometimes too much junk winds up it there. www.microsoft.com (http://www.microsoft.com) has many pages to search keywords on. Dial up networking will hit a bunch of explanations that will take up too much room here. Sorry for such a indirect answer, try the dun1.3 if ya don't have the latest edition. Do you know how to use the Compac boot disc?? see my other post if ya do. sincerely Richard
