I'm setting up a network in my dorm room between my desktop and my laptop. I have the uplink port on the hup hooked up to my ethernet port in my room. i have my desktop plugged into the first port in the hub and it works great. however my laptop is not getting any kind of connection. i have it plugged into the second port of the hub and there isn't even a green light signifying that somthing is plugged into that port. i've double checked the cable and it's fine. i'd really like to get this working so any help is great!?!?

Check the usual things; make sure the ethernet card is installed properly in your laptop, move it around within the PCMCIA slots if you can... try the cable that's between the desktop and the hub, between the laptop and the hub. If you have access to another laptop and you can remove the ethernet card from the laptop, try the card in another laptop. Try plugging in the line from the laptop into other ports on the hub. Try going directly from the laptop to the ethernet jack in your room.
Give these a try, and report back what your results are!

Ok, i hooked my laptop directly up to the ethernet drop port and it turns out that the laptop's ethernet isn't working at all. i uninstalled it, reinstalled it. reinstalled all of the protocols and still nothing. i look under the device manager and it says that the ethernet card is installed and working properly, but this obviously isn't true. So now i suppose that it isn't a networking problem it's a technical problem. why isn't the ethernet card working. thanks jw310.
Socalgal, could you please transfer this thread to the Technical section. thanks
