putting in a new operating system on my toshiba laptop and it tells me to put in the xp 2 cd pack which I do and then it asks me to click on ok , so it can install the files it needs off this service pack. the file 'asms' is needed from the service pac 2CD copy files from D\1386 when I click on ok nothing happens..... help please someone

Ok after rebooting the disk several times it finally loaded and everything is working properly except the keyboard mouse. I plugged in a serial port mouse and it works good. Why doesnt the keyboard pad mouse work?? Also I have a 850cpu and would like to upgrade to a used cpu 1.1 ghz would be nice. what would fit my system Its a toshiba satellite 1800-s253 also I only have 14 gb hard drive could use a thirty . With this system am I limited. and what could I use. Any help much apprecciated

You need to install updated drivers before the rest of the hardware works properly. Download the drivers from the Toshiba website.

Laptop CPU can not be easily updated. The model laptop is severly limited by the BIOS in each model. It is not recommended that you try to upgrade the CPU.

You can easily copy the OS and your files from the 14GB hard drive to any brand laptop 30GB hard drive that you buy. I use an external USB laptop drive enclosure to hold the old drive I want to copy then I use Norton Ghost to copy it to the new drive.

You may have an old version of BIOS or it may be disabled in the BIOS

You should be at version: 1.90
