I just built up a system with an Abit BF6 and ATI Rage 8 mb video card running w98 v2.
My colors are off - whats going on ?
When I boot up instead of having 4 colors in the w/98 flag I get orange in the upper left (instead of red ) and also orange in the lower right quadrant (instead of yellow) etc.
After bootup screen background is blue instead green. etc etc.
Unintalling and reinstalling card and drivers
did help. What else can I check ?
Thanks

Hmm. Could be a few things.
1. Static fried card (not likely)
2. Dodgy monitor cable (quite likely)
3. Knackered monitor. (quite likely)

Here's something you might want to check. In the System Tray, there's a ATI icon. Right click on it, choose Settings --> Display Settings.
Then go to the Settings Tab in the window that pops up. Click on the Advanced button. Then, look for the Color tab (it will have an ATI icon next to it). There you can edit your color settings.
Another possibility is that your RGB (red, green, blue) settings in your monitor may be off. Try changing those settings if possible. Good luck!

grab your moniter cable where it plugs in to the card and wiggle it and see what happens http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I don't know what driver you are using, but windows has a basic driver for that card.
I can't remember the exact name, but in the driver list under ATI/Rage it is the only one that ends with (atir3). I have used this before when other "new and improved" drivers from the ATI site have given me problems.
It would be something to try if you suspect the driver and think everything else is o.k.
