When I try to install Sound Blaster Live MP3+ in my system, I get a blue screen message:

Fatal exception OE 0028: C14D587B in VXD EMU10K1(01) + 0000B7FB.

I assume the cause is the driver itself for sound blaster, or possibly some other software that comes with the card.

When I remove the software and the card, I don't seem to have the problem.

What are the possible causes of the dreaded blue screen? How do I go about installing the sound card?

The computer is a brand new build. Infact it was my first. Specs:

Antec case 250 pw supply
Intel FCPGA 500E(500mhz) 100mhz fsb 370 pin Iwill Slocket II 370 pin to Slot one adapter
Tyan tsunami 440BX ATX mobo 100mhz Slot one
256 Mb Ram:
One ribbon 128MB RAM Pc 133mhz (Corsair)
two ribbons 64MB RAM PC 100mhz (kingston)
Viper II 32MB Video Card
3.5 floppy
Toshiba 8x2x32 DVD/CDWRIT/CDROM
Windows 98 Second Edition
Maxtor 20 GIG Ultra DMA 66 EIDE, 7200 RPM
Not installed yet:
Sound Blaster Live MP3 +
Diamand Modem 56k/ V.90 X 2 (dual)
(shotgun technology also not installed yet)

? I set the Cpu VCORE on the Iwill slocket to 2.0, I am not sure exactly if this is optimum? If anyone can help in this arena for setting Vcore on this CPU, please do. When I boot the system I get a single beep (AMI bios 2.0 version). I have used computer for several things and no blue screen. When I install the sound card it displays the error message.

Stumped?

Make sure you did not install the SBlive in the PCI socket closest to the AGP slot. It causes all sorts of IRQ/BSOD's on mine.

Thanks Toadman, I will check it out. I think it is the closest to the AGP slot? Any other possible causes?

i just looked up the beep error codes and a single beep in my source for ami-bios is this:

beeps: 1 refresh failure

description:
the memory refresh chip is defective

this means that the system is having trouble acccessing your memory to refresh it. that is why it is called dynamic ram becuase it is tested by a refresh circuit hundreds of tims a second. if that is defective then the ram cant hold its contents and the computer flips out with a blue screen. it could also mean that one of the memory slots is defective, meaning your mobo could be a bum board from the start.
so, you could get the motherboard and the memory tested at your local computer fixing place that has testers of that nature to see if that is the problem. you could also try your mem sticks one by one to see if you can find the bad stick(s). one thing....is the pc133 mem in the first slot and is your board compatible with that kind of memory? that could be your problem if the board cannot handle pc133 ram. although why it happens when you install your sound card escapes me.....

hope this help you...good luck and let us know what goes on.....

I have the PC133 in the first slot, and the PC100 in the second and third. Like I said the computer runs smooth in all programs. One exception: when I try and install the sound card and all applications associated with it the blue screen pops. Several more of the exact same warnings may pop up after the initial warning, and when I try to shut down it will display a black screen with the hourglass cursor and I physically have to turn off the machine. Tonight I will try swapping all three ribbons in different slots seperately, and moving the sound card to a different slot. Thankx for your help! Any other suggestions?

Alright, Here I am again mumbling to myself. I moved the darned ram around beep still there. Come to the conclusion the possibley is not the regular beep from bios (after beep a line appears: BSP MICROCODE OK). Again I removed sound card from pci slot to another. I booted system reloaded SB Live and problem still exists. I disabled the SB live under systems menu in Windows and problem just up and disappeared. I tried every game and program I got to possibly coax the blue screen to appear. To no avail it worked fine (no darned sound though). Is it possible the card is bad, Its brand new. Also could it be incompatible with some part of my system (see previous post)

Stumped like a stripped Old Growth Forest!

I don't know much about the new 500e but I'm pretty sure the voltage should be at 1.65 Also the Iwill slocket has been problematic for some because I believe the jumper/voltage are incorrect. checkout www.azzo.com (http://www.azzo.com) I think they have the "correct" settings for voltage etc. good luck. sounds like an awesome system. good luck

Thanks Bigslammer, Iwill check it out and see if setting to 1.65 helps in anyway. Could this have an effect on the sound card causing a Blue Scren Fatal Exception error? Could Setting the vcore at 2.0 damage my Cpu. I haven't really ran the system longer than 20 minutes (really wanted the sound card to fire up before playing games extensively). Also the Iwill slocket has a setting called no cpu for Vcore setting. Does this mean let the cpu control the Cpu Vcore? Anybody have any helpful tips, quirps, directions, let me know.

Hey Bigslammer thanks man, I hadn't used comp for to long and you saved me from possibley frying the cpu! I feel like a boob, I downloaded newest driver for card and all problems went away! The new driver made the card compatible with the new coppermine cpu's (which I have). Thanks for the info though, like I said possibly saved me from frying comp. One question remains, what of the initial beep I here after post and begging startup of windows 98se. Also what does the line BSP Microcode OK deal mean?

Happy as clam!

I am getting the same fatal exception error with my SB Live X-Gamer in a Tyan S1854 motherboard. The computer works fine before and after I remove the Sound Card, but crashes constantly to the blue screen when the SB Live is in the PCI slot. I have not changed, nor do I know how to adjust the core voltage on this motherboard.
I am suspecting that my older Diamond Stealth 64 PCI video card may not be compatible with the newer PCI standards of the SB Live. The Steath card works fine without the sound card. The Steath is only in there until my Viper 770 32MB AGP card (that Tyan recommends) arrives from back-order

Tyan Trinity 400 S1854 rev.3 - bios v1.0
Intel P3 600EB Slot 1(133 fsb Coppermine)
128MB SDRAM PC-133 (Crucial)
WD 13.6GB ATA-66 HDD
Iomega IDE ZIP100
Iomega ZIPCD600 CD-RW
Diamond Stealth64 PCI (waiting on Viper770AGP)
USR 56K Winmodem (ISA)
Windows 98 SE

Thanks,

Hey fingers! I downloaded the new version of the Soundblaster live at sblive.com(the file is sbl9xdrv1199.zip)after disabling SBLIVE in Windows. I ran the program sbl9xdrv1199.zip and it cured the problem. The driver that came on the disk was written in earlier in the year. The new driver was written to conform with the new intel and amd cpu's later and distributed in November 99. My system is running beautifully and the card definately was worth installing. Good Luck, its aproximately 5.3mb download and took alittle while.

Thanks Mattyb, I downloaded (sbl9xdrv1199.zip)and unzipped the latest drivers from the Creative Web Site. When I put the Sound Blaster Card back in, Windows proceeded to crash to the blue screen right after it finished installing the software for "my new hardware" It was still using the old drivers. After disabling Creative SB Emulation and Creative Multimedia Interface in device manager, I ran the driver update (W9xdrv.exe) and rebooted. Perfect! Works fine now, but DirectX Diagnostics Tool(DxDiag.exe) reports several files that may cause conflicts. I guess I'll deal with them when and if they ever show up.

Thanks again,

Fingers

Fingers, with those 11/99 drivers, do you hear any raspy noise at all thru your speakers that shouldn't be there? I wish I could describe it better...

Does something like this have to do with drivers or the actual pos/neg. connections in the back of each speaker?

Thanks!

Rh, You might consider calling the tech support 1-405-742-6622 or check out sblive.com . They have been having problems just like you describe. Make sure you have connected to the appropiate connection in the back of card (analog for regular speakers, and digital for connecting to a receiver or vhs). Good Luck

Fingers, I am pretty sure the errors you now have are due to your Video card and its compatibility with the version of DirectX. You'll need to check into downloading newest driver for your video card. This should also cure your problem. Check www.diamondmm.com (http://www.diamondmm.com) for newest driver. Good Luck
