I have an IBM ThinkPad, and I need to install Windows, the problem I have, is that I can only have one drive in at a time. I've been told, I need to save the CD-ROM drivers off of the Floppy, then restart computer with the CD-ROM in the unit.
My problem is, I don't know how to do this. If someone could tell me in detail how to do this, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks in advance
John

John go here http://www6b.pc.ibm.com:8080/~Thinkpad make yourself a profile up and head for the thinkpad 760 forum. They should have all the info you want regarding your boot disk, and the proper drivers for it. I don't have the disks anymore, I can't find them, for the video and sound drivers. These will need to be downloaded as well, I think the correct video driver are the Trident Cyber9682 but I'm not 100%. I can't remember the drivers for the sound card either. Sorrry I didn't get back to you, I've had a lot going on and it kinda slipped my mind http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif let me know if you run into problems with it I will see what I can do.

How old is your Thinkpad. You can probably boot from the Windows CD. Go into your bios and check to see if CDROM is in your boot sequence option.
If I'm reading you correct, you do have a working boot disk with CD support, right?
And the HD is empty, or what?
IF that's the case you just need to make the HD the boot device and copy all files from the boot disc to the HD, then edit the autoexec.bat and config.sys files to reference the HD instead of the floppy.
Sort of the reverse of creating a custom boot disc, a process which is documented here (http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdir.htm#howto).
Another option: My laptop has no CD, so (using my desktop machine) I copied the entire Win95 folder from the CD to a zip disk, then used an external parallel port zip drive to do the install. Slow & time-consuming, but works!
