Should be outlawed. They are going to leak man. Hmm, maybe isn't a flat roof? I think the lights I see may not be sky lights???? j.m@talk 09-21-2007, 08:33 PM Could be a parapet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parapet)fingi doofer mireland 09-21-2007, 08:36 PM did YOU build that??? j.m@talk 09-21-2007, 08:41 PM Impressive innit :D j.m@talk 09-21-2007, 08:47 PM Flat roofs. Should be outlawed. They are going to leak man. I had a look @ a friends house & that had the wildest roof design I have ever seen ..... It was flat, & it was concrete, 18" thick concrete with tar poured on the top ....... Which was fine back in 1890 when it was built .....but in 2007 it was a leakin' ....... Well scraping the 3" thick tar wasn't a issue really simple enough ..... It was drying the masonary so the new pour would stick ...... I have no idea how to do that ..... Other than scaffold the roof, cover it in corigated metal & leave it a couple of years to dry itself ...... Any ideas ? Either way you look at it ..... Its gonna be tricky mireland 09-21-2007, 08:53 PM Impressive innit :D I wouldn't let your CAT walk in that room.... :( BadDriver 09-21-2007, 08:53 PM I had a look @ a friends house & that had the wildest roof design I have ever seen ..... Truss it up and shingle it. Lotta work but flat roofs suck (water). j.m@talk 09-21-2007, 09:07 PM We don't do shingles here ......... Theys not posh enough ...... Spose could build a timber fingi-me-dufer & use slate ....... Or Tile if he's cheap ;) j.m@talk 09-21-2007, 09:09 PM I wouldn't let your CAT walk in that room.... :( My Mog is a member of the Master Craftsmans guild (http://www.guildmc.com/) ........ She has more idea about most stuff than me :( http://www.guildmc.com/SiteGlobal/Images/splashmain.gif BadDriver 09-21-2007, 09:16 PM We don't do shingles here ......... Theys not posh enough ...... Spose could build a timber fingi-me-dufer & use slate ....... Or Tile if he's cheap ;) Ya Limey's are a strange bunch. You won't use shingles but you will pour 3" of hot tar on 18" of concrete. Well. at $7.50 per slate have yer way covering 1 square foot of roof for $7.50. Tile is just as good and actually looks better than slate IMO. mireland 09-21-2007, 09:18 PM Ya Limey's are a strange bunch. that about sums it up.... :t BadDriver 09-21-2007, 09:30 PM that about sums it up.... :t True, he thinks Cher was a dog. If Cher was a dog when she was a pup then this boy is opening a kennel. :r :r :r j.m@talk 09-21-2007, 09:34 PM Ya Limey's are a strange bunch. Tile is just as good and actually looks better than slate IMO. Tile is a heap load heavier tho ....... Dunno what loads it will take ya see..... That & slate lasts 5X longer BadDriver 09-21-2007, 09:44 PM I have torn off slates that were over 100 years old so I know they last a while. Terra cotta tile will last forever also unless ya Brits call something else tile?? Yeah, tile would be heavier I figure but wif 18" of concrete and 3" of tar I figure the load is already there. I don't know if I would want to walk into that joint or not. All I can say is............fix it before it has too many freeze and thaw cycles or else ya could get kinda mashed flat in there. :D j.m@talk 09-23-2007, 07:58 AM Umm we got tiles of all sorts ..... Clay & cementatious ......... Mine are some kinda clay ..... & hand made ...... Discontinued years ago ......
