I put in a Viper 770 ultra and it worked great. Then I did something dumb and put in a Sound Blaster Live x-gamer sound card and I haven't been able to get a game with Direct 3D to work since. Right when I double click on the Icon the mouse pointer just freezes and then I have to restart. Plus when I test direct 3d and direct draw in dxdiag it just locks up. I have totaly wiped my hard drive clean and statet over and I get the exact same ****. The sound seems to work but the video card seems to be the problem. When I wiped it clean I installed just the drivers and not all that live wire **** and it hasn't helped. If anyone has any info it would be very helpful cuz I'm stumped.

A little more info about your system would be helpful, but it seems you have an irq conflict..the 770 takes an irq..check in system properties to see which irq's are taken up. You may try moving the sound card to another pci slot...

I tried what you sugested about moving the card and didn't work. The sound card is now on I10 and the video card is I11. Some more info on my system is I have Win98 second ed. with an ABIT BX6 main board with a 400mhz p2 chip and 128megs. The only other thing on 11 is the IRQ holder for PCI stearin. Thanks for your help.

Usually I see problems whenever the SB-Live is used in any slot next to any other slot that has an IRQ requiring device in it.
I have good success placing it in the last PCI slot (next to the first ISA slot) and then moving other cards up one slot away from it.

CregBeary, I also had problems with the SB live. I cured it by disabling the device in Windows then downloaded newer version of driver (at sblive.com aproximately 5.3mb). I then ran the program downloaded (sbl9xdrv1199.zip) and it automatically uninstalled old drivers and installed the new driver and kept the same application stuff from the cd (useful in some instances). The new driver cures the problems involved in some games and with new cpu's. This cured all my problems. Don't forget to then re-enable device after installing new drivers. Good luck!
