Does anybody have any ideas as to why my computer will lock up occasionally when I manually disconnect the modem. Doesn't happen all the time. The modem is a usr sportster.(winmodem)
Doesn't seem to be any conflicts with other cards in system. Come to think of it the other modem I had in this computer did the same thing once in awhile. Must be something in this puter doesn't like modems.

I think I'll remove the sound card for a while and see if that makes a difference.

Thoughts/comments.......?

Quick question, do you have a serial mouse?

My motherboard has two serial ports Comm1 and Comm 2. My serial mouse is connected to Comm 1. I also have a PS2 mouse connection not in use.

When you say "lock up", do you mean that the computer completely crashes or that it just pauses for a few moments? My win-modem always freezes my system for two or three seconds when it connects or disconnects. As dar as I know this is pretty much normal... Good luck.

Yup...95% of the time it will disconnect with only the 2-3 sec freeze, but once in awhile it will lock right up. The freeze will stay. Cannot shut down system properly.
