Do the cookies HAVE to be in the cookie folder to work? Or can the common ones you definitely want to keep, go into another folder. Reason I am asking? So I can delete them on a regular basis, but not get rid of the ones I want.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.................. .....
If you could tell your browser that you have loaded them in a different spot maybe...But I dont see any outside way of doing that. I know the feeling, theres only 3 or 4 I want to keep (sysopt for one) and the others I wanna flush on a regular basis.
In my experience, they either have to reside in the cookie folder, or stay in the temporary internet folder to work as the software won't look for them anywhere else.
Best bet is to copy your edited cookie folder into a notepad text document and then periodically erase the cookie folder and replace it with the copied file.
You'll probably want to test that theory, however, before you blow away something important.

I like to use a program called cookie cruncher that you can download at www.download.com (http://www.download.com) . All of the cookies have to be in the same directory, but the ones that you want to keep are normally at the top of the list. So I delete all the bottom cookies.

This touches upon the BIG problem in Microsoft products: the mixing of personal data and application files. If Microsoft would have had any sense at all they would have put ALL data files on a separate partition by default and allowed users much more control of exactly where different files are stored.
Most non-Microsoft applications do allow the user control of where the data files are stored, but Microsoft products just scatter data files all over the place and create a total mess. Get a grip Microsoft!
The message is: If you want to control your cookies (or any other data file), use Netscape. It will store ALL its settings in one single folder.
