Hope someone might be able to help. I have an old Biostar M6TLC motherboard, and I would like to replace the battery. I am not experienced with this sort of thing. First I was wondering where the battery is (don't laugh) , can I replace it or is it a permanent part of the motherboard? I checked the system board manual and I can't seem to figure out where the battery is. The only mention of a battery that I can find in the manual is under "jumper settings" where it states "onboard battery disabled" The reason I want to change the battery is because I keep getting a "Checksum error-defaults loaded" message on boot up. The clock time is always wrong even though I reset it each time.
Any advice would be appreciated but try to keep the sarcasm to a minimum :-). Thanks, maddie

the battery would look like a quarter (i'm assuming you're American).

looks like it is right behind the pci slots.

Most stores such as Lowes, Radio Shack, Circuit City, Staples, Best Buy, Frys, etc will have the battery in stock.

Thanks for the info.
Can I get shocked trying to replace the battery (someone told me it could happen). Also, do I need to reset all the computer settings after replacing it?

No, you won't get shocked (it's only 3 volts). However, speaking of shocks, if you're in a cooler/drier climate wear a static strap or otherwise ground yourself of static discharges. They're enough to fry a motherboard if they zap the right location.
In addition to the above retailers, anyplace selling hearing-aid batteries will have the 2032 in stock.
After you replace the battery, you will have to reset the system clock and if you had any special BIOS settings, they'll have to be set again also.
Here's a typical 2032 CMOS battery socket:

I don't see the nickname "Maddie" very often. Did you grow up on Conner Ave in Westfield?

Sorry. Haven't been back to this site for a while. No, I didn't grow up on Connor Ave. But thanks again for the help.
