A man's family watched in horror as he was crushed by a 30-tonne trailer at the European Tractor Pulling championships at Great Eccleston, Lancashire.
The 58-year-old man, named as Juan Alphen from Holland, was competing in the championships at Great Eccleston when he became trapped in a pulling unit.
Firefighters were called to the village showground at about 5pm on Sunday and used specialist cutting equipment to free him.
They were also assisted by a team from the Royal Preston Hospital.
The man was trapped for an hour-and-a-half before being airlfted to hospital. He later died of his injuries.
Police have been to the scene to carry out an investigation.
The tractor pulling event is believed to have attracted 15,000 spectators on Saturday and Sunday.
