What is normal temperature of CPU Pentium-II 400MHz not overcloced? I have 130-134 F is it OK?

I don't know if the temp is too high (seems like it) Do you have a heatsink&fan on the CPU? I've got a Celeron it was running 45C-I put die-a-lectric grease on it to help heat transfere, then I added a4 inch cooling fan -120 volt(its own power) then a CPU idle program(tells the Cpu "cool down") now the temp is down to 23C other cooling programs out there too. Look in the overclocker forum_you could also search INTEL for spec.

I am going on memory now so if I am wrong I am sure some out there will jump me, but I think you need to try and keep temp below 40c for best results, so 130f + will be stressing the CPU.

Russianguy: That temp seems a little high, better cooling & airflow would be a good thing. Believe Intel CPUs can withstand temps as high as 75C to 80C which is max before it begins to fail.

Get a front case fan(if you don't have one).If your power supply fan is blowing in,reverse it.

My IBM 475 amd K6-2 runs about 105F(core), P100 o/c to 120 came with no fan, goes to 130f(sink)in 1hr @full load. With 3"case fan blowing on it and behind mobo, temp stays at 84f. Ambient temp 72f. DrVette

Thanks guys for your respond. I have boxed CPU so that the is a standart heatsink http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif also I have a fron panel fan. I tried to open CPU's case in order to replace heat sink but I coudn't do that. System is workin good I was just considering about hight CPU's temp.

That seems high to me as well.

My PII 450 is running at 91F now. When i remember to start rain it ususally drops the temp down by 10F. I'm usually at 80-85 with rain on.

My PIII450 is at 96.8 (I don't want any comments about it being too human...) where it has stayed for three months. It hasn't been off for more than 3 hours, that was too install a new drive. I believe that my new drive is the cause of my heat dilemna (I used to keep her in the 80's) as there is not good airflow now in thar!

That temp does sound a bit high. My CPU was running at about 40oC most of the time and so yesterday I downloaded Rain and straight away the temp started dropping. It eventually settled at about 32oC which I am very impressed with. I have a TV Tuner card in my PC and spend alot of the time watching tele, so I am glad that while I am doing this the temperature is nice and low now.

I got rain from www.tweakfiles.com (http://www.tweakfiles.com) which has some pretty cool stuff.

if you want to get that crappy heatsink off, there are places that tell you how to to do it. start here: http://www.hardocp.com
and then start looking for links on it, or search for pentium heatsinks in a search engine. i remember seeing several articles about how to do this safely, but for the life of me i cant remember where.....

Temp could be bogus info as well. Reading off the motherboard probe?

Ok...shocker here...the normal design temp limit is between 75 and 90C...40-50 is totally acceptable fro normal use...this according to Intel's S-SPEC sheet (http://support.intel.com/support/processors/sspec.htm)

Now, if overclocked ( a whole different story ), you need as low a temp as you can get!
