Hi there guys!!

Here's the thing, i'm gonna buy a notebook soon...but i'm still confused if i should get a Dell Vostro 1700 or a Dell XPS m1710, mainly because i'm not that up to date with mobile video cards, so, the vostro 1700 comes with 8400M GS / 8600M GT and the XPS m1710 comes with either a 7900GS or a 7950GS ....

How important is for me to get DX10 compatibility and go for the vostro with the 8xxx ?

I'm moving to a lot smaller house where i will share a studio/office with my dad, so we are both selling or desktops pc's and will be buying laptops very soon. In my case, the laptop would be my main PC and will be for personal/work use so i plan investing in a good base system that i would use for the next 3 to 4 years..so i need to make a good choice; yes i do play 3d games...mostly wow, stalker and the likes but i'm not dedicated as i used to be, mainly i will find myself trying dual booting and experimenting with software (since i'm an IT Consultant)..

All type of comments would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for the merry posts :) :P

DX10 is far from being significant. Rumor has it that DX10.1 is going to require new hardware anyway.

that sounds great. Figures that microsoft/nvidia would do something like that. Hope my 8800GTX watercooler would fix the new gen hardware when it comes out.

it's not nvidia or ati. it's microsoft.

although DirectX 10.1 will support current DirectX 10 graphics hardware, today's DirectX 10 hardware will not be able to support all of the features of DirectX 10.1, which includes incremental improvements to 3D rendering quality

they say it's not a big deal though. I could really care less until DX10 becomes the defacto standard.

still really underhanded of them to do that, they could easily make it where our current cards can make full use of DX10.1
