I am running three systems (Netware5, Win98/Linux and NT server 4.0 SP4) with one monitor, mouse and keyboard. Problem I'm having is that frequently, when I switch between systems, my PS2 mouse is non-operational.

The question I have is; short of rebooting, is there a way to redetect the mouse? I seem to remember something about it in Linux, but I'm not sure about the Netware and Windows systems. BTW, the switch box is mechanical, however, I've been told that even the electronic switches will do this.

Any help would be appreciated.

That's not entirely true - We use "Black-box" brand electronic switches, and they maintain the heart-beat signal telling the different CPU's that the key-board, monitor, and mouse is still there. I've never had a problem switching between CPU's with an electronic switch. Thing is, these boxes are a bit on the steep side in $$$ and the cables you need are $$$ as well., but then this is work, and it's still cheaper than buying more monitors, mice, & keyboards.

Axel,

Thanks for the reply. I grew up about a half mile from Black Box Corp., and as much as I would like to use their product, I know how little they pay their people, and I have a hard time supporting a company who doesn't reinvest in their workforce.

Guess I'll live with it for a while longer.

Thanks

You might look into a nice little 4 system electronic switch made by Cybex (http://www.cybex.com) called the Switchveiw (if my memory serves me right) it allows you to use industry standard cables (ps/2 and VGA cables) and the 4 port runs right around the 150 buck mark.

Mtnsnow, thanks for the input. I just bought one of Belkin's Omnicube's for $109 including shipping. Belkin says it won't have any trouble keeping the mouse alive. Should be here middle of next week, so I'll let you know how it works. In the mean time, know of any good uses for a 4 position switch???

Thanks again..

Mtnsnow, just wanted to update you on my KVM switch. Installed Wednesday and working great. Thanks for the advice. If you ever get to the Virginia Beach area, drop me a note and I'll buy you a beer.
