I am going to be building my new PC in about 2 weeks and I'm wondering about using multiple devices on an ATA/66 chain. I'm getting an Abit VA6 which has 2 on-baord ATA/66 controllers. I am also going to have an IBM 27Gb ATA/66 HDD, a Plextor Plexwriter 8x/4x/32x CD-RW, and a Pioneer 10x DVD-ROM. My question is that if I want to be able to direct disk to disk writes with the CD-RW drive then the DVD and the CD-RW drives need to be on seperate controllers. This being true, if I run the DVD (which is ATA/33) as a slave drive on the same ribbon as my HDD will my HDD be able to use ATA/66 or will it be limited to ATA/33?

Don't know about the VA6, but the BE-6 does not like Non-ATA66 devices on it's ATA66 controller.
You might not have so much luck on the VA6 either, I think it uses the same Highpoint controller.

felix726: I'm with BBA, not a good idea to connect your non-ata66 devices on the same cable. Heck, you've got two other controllers. BTW, be curious to here how you like the board. I have my doubts about integrated audio. Seems to be a new trend with ABIT to integrate not only sound but video in the WB6. Is this needed to make the 810E chipset work? Anyone know?
Your DVD-ROM will not work at ATA 66. The HD will just work at 33 instead. However, I wouldn't connect that DVD-ROM to the Ultra ATA 66 interface. Use one ATA 33 interface for the CD-RW drive, and the other for the DVD-ROM drive. Direct disk to disk copying should work well, but will be limited by the speeds of the DVD-ROM and the CD-RW. Good luck!
